Salton Sea // Knotted Ponytail
Salton Sea X For Love and Lemons! I am obsessed with this bikini! I've been waiting for an awesome location to shoot it at and the Salton Sea was the perfect amount of weirdness. The Salton Sea is the largest lake in California measuring 15 miles by 35 miles. The lake's salinty, about 56 grams per litre (9.0 oz/imp gal), is greater than that of the waters of the Pacific Ocean, thus giving it its name the Salton Sea. In the 50's and 60's the Salton Sea was dubbed the miracle in the desert and people flocked to it for sun bathing, jet skiing and swimming. Since then it's become a desolate wasteland filling the shores with skeletons of dead fish and birds. After writing all this out it makes me wonder...... Why did Morgan and I decide to go there?! Haha
Truth be told the first I went to Salvation Mountain we drove by and I had no idea what the Salton Sea was nor heard of it before. So on this second road trip I thought "why not", maybe it's a site worth seeing! I initially thought after reading online that the smell would be over powering and that the water would be super gross. Which honestly it wasn't! I would say the most unsettling and depressing part was all the buildings and shacks surrounding the Salton Sea. All in all if you're in the area you might as well stop by but I don't think its worth the investment of driving 3 hours from Los Angeles!
While at the Salton Sea Morgan and I found these very salty wooden stakes still standing that we shot by! This For Love and Lemons red bikini came out with their first spring collection this year. The top and bottoms are mix and match style and they just introduced a black collections of the same styles. I'm a huge fan of FLL and will always recommend their well made clothing/suits!
The braid paired with this bikini is not so much a braid as it is just a bunch of knots! Which is an easy way to step up your pony tail game! Alas, sit tight because there will be a tutorial coming soon to recreate this simple look!
