Road to Coachella // Dutch Crown Braid
Last week photographer Morgan Newton and I went on a road trip adventure to find the much photographed Coachella City California sign. Most people don't talk about the behind the scenes things that take place during a photo shoot. Ours was filled with trial, car rides, LORDE, sun burns, bugs and crazy guys yelling at us. In the next couple of Braids and Bikinis blog posts I'll be sharing about our adventure filled photo shoot! Morgan and I started our drive from Long Beach California headed to Coachella City California. We figured we'd just casually come across the sign since google wasn't any help. After circling around the city looking for the sign for 30 mins we gave up and decided that we'd try to find it on the way back. When we were heading back towards Los Angeles we decided to give it one more shot and as luck would have it we found it at the prettiest time of day, sunset.
I'm wearing a For Love and Lemons dress and bikini! The one critique I got from my sister was "maybe next time you wear a cream colored bikini you get a spray tan....." THANKS. But she's right! I got this bikini to wear for my destination wedding this fall! For Love and Lemons makes amazing staples in their dress, lingerie and swimwear collections. Both of these pieces I got at their sample sale last fall which is probably the best thing you can do if you live in Los Angeles. I've been asked before how I find sample sales and my best answer is; most brands post about them on Instagram or if you're signed up to receive newsletters from them! The For Love and Lemons sample sale was by far the best I've been to and I spent wayyyy too much money! I paired this with jewelry from Frasier Sterling. Being a huge fan of A Bikini A Day, Devon wears jewelry from them all the time so I knew I had to get my hands on some!
And lastly the braid! Being that this was the last look shot on our way home and that I had to do my hair in my car on the side of the road as semi-trucks drove by, I did two dutch braids and pinned them up! You need a lot of bobby pins AND hair pins to accomplish this and the trick is to tuck the ends under so that it looks like a crown braid! Maybe there will be a tutorial coming! ;)
Hope everyone enjoys their Coachella Season!
