Dutch Crown Braid Tutorial
Dutch Crown Braid Step-by-Step!
The simple difference between a french and dutch braid (the question I'm always asked) Dutch braid is when "the braid pops out on top". This is accomplished by handing off the hair UNDER each strand vs on top (like a french braid). This is a simple dutch braid starting in the front hairline and braided back away from the face leaving hair out over ear to create a softer look! Quite easy if you know how to Dutch braid already... If you don't, I'll try my best to explain!
Divide Hair down middle
Start on one side. Take three small sections of hair in your hand. Take your left side and cross under the middle section into your right hand, take right section crossing under center section this is like a regular braid pattern except it's passed under each section instead of on top.
In your left hand grab a small section of hair to add into the left section and pass (left) section under to middle. Do the same to the right section!
Continue braiding like this adding new sections of hair with each pass under, leave out hair above ear to create softness. Only add about 4 sections of hair to each side (18 seconds in video) and then continue braiding until there's about 3 inches of length left and tie hair tie. (28 seconds in video)
Use my favorite hair powder Expanda by Unite to create texture in the braid. Sprinkle some of this magic fairy dust on top of braid. (31 seconds in video)
Gently pull apart braid by holding on to the elastic on the end (where you left a couple inches loose). Starting by softly pulling the hair out of the elastic on each side. I like to think you are making a bigger heart shaped on each side as you gently pull it. Start at the bottom of the braid and work up until the front hairline! (watch 1:12 in video for a close up of this)
Repeat on other side!
Place braids over each other in back and secure with bobby pins or elastic!
