MIKOH Swimwear // Rose Crown Braid
I can't say it enough, every time I see new photos the happier and more excited for this project I am! I didn't have much of an idea of what the actual posts I wanted to create would look like. However since this is my first time blogging I am trying to let my posts take their natural course. My friend Mandee of Mandee Rae photography decided it was time for a visit a couple weeks ago so naturally we tried to squeeze as many shoots in as we could. We set aside an entire day and a half for BB. At this point I owe Mandee my soul for all she's done and the stress I'm sure I've caused her over this extremely busy holiday season.
We spent a full day at El Matador State Beach in Malibu, CA shooting several different looks. Mandee and I choose Melissa for this shoot because of her gorgeous natural red hair! Melissa is so generous to give up her time and drive all the way from San Diego for us. She truly embodies the carefree spirit I want to be shown in all the BB shoots. Melissa is wearing a MIKOH full-piece. MIKOH swimwear was created in Orange County, CA by two sisters. The brand was created "for the confident modern woman and is unique, wearable at home and abroad". The suit itself is constructed of luxurious material and hardware free which is one of the many things I like about it.
Luckily for me Melissa's hair color is rich in tone and has playable texture to it. Picking her for a hair model couldn't have made my life any easier. I started her hair with a Dutch braid, only adding hair in until I reached in front of the ear. It's important to leave enough hair out of the braid to cover her ear. This will make the braid appear softer. After I stopped grabbing hair I finished the braid down the rest of the length of hair and secured it with an elastic. I then repeated the same braiding technique on the other side. Once both braids were done I took one side and twisted it making it into a spiral. Pinning it into place at her lower crown and left the other braid hanging. Truthfully this is the braid I had wanted to achieve for my House of Tomorrow look but because of how many layers I have, it couldn't be accomplished. Lucky for the me, there's girls like Melissa with long hair to braid! Stay tuned for how-to videos coming January 2016!
I accessorized Melissa with some heart-shaped Wildfox sunglasses and a Herschel Supply Company backpack. When I took the sunglasses out of their case both Mandee and Melissa's faces instantly showed their love for the fun shape. We had to use them and they were perfect.
