Made By Dawn Swimwear // Fishtail Braids
Earlier this year I received my first Made By Dawn bikini. I would like to think this is what started it all. The owners of MBD, Kirk and Dawn are a wonderful couple based out of Carpinteria, CA area and are friends of my boyfriend. Dawn was so generous to gift me this amazing suit. When I first tried it on I knew it was the start of a long term relationship between me and MBD. One thing I love most about their brand is the way it emulates the California beach life with their shell picker bikinis bottoms and easily worn suits. When I first imagined this suit in the shoot I knew it had to be shot in one of Kirk and Dawn's local surf spots where I first met Dawn. My boyfriend being an avid surfer has taken me to Rincon several times and I could not wait to shoot in the tide pools. I chose to accessorize my suit with a Brixton sun hat, Wildfox sunglasses and a Pendleton towel. As much as I would love to claim I'm a surfer there's no way I could ever claim this beautiful board as my own. It belongs to my boyfriend and was made by Carpinteria local surfboard shaper Ryan Lovelace.
Braiding my hair for this look was no easy task. I felt that the braids I had picked out made me look too cowgirl paired with the hat and my hair has too many layers for the braid I wanted to do. Fishtails are actually the hardest braid for me to do. Needless to say I practiced at home for a bit to accomplish these. I couldn't be happier with the way these images turned out and I hope they inspired the inner surfer in you too.
